The Swedes are at it again. If you saw Komeda play in your town, maybe you noticed a happy young man with a mop of curly blond hair pounding away at a keyboard with them. That young man was Doktor Kosmos. He now wants to share his Cocktail with you. Won't you share a drink with Doktor Kosmos? Share it. Share it now.

Doktor Kosmos was born in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1971. He was a happy child who often played with saucepans. Later, he became interested in other kinds of music, especially pornobilly. At the age of 17, he formed the pornobilly orchestra Handsome Hank and the Hookers. That band eventually evolved into Doktor Kosmos and the Starlight Orchestra, and the Doktor became the lead singer.

Cocktail is Doktor Kosmos' second release, his first to be recorded in English. It all began when the Doktor wanted to see how various sounds he could make out of a very tiny synthesizer.

Why, Doktor?

"I can't explain why, really," he says. "I've just always been interested in plastic sounds. "But there is also a much more practical reason, too.
"Nobody in the group has a driver's license," he explains, "so we had to keep our instruments tiny so they'd fit into our backpacks."

Doktor Kosmos is the only person you hear on this record, as musician and producer. The music was recorded first. The lyrics were added because they were needed.

Doktor Kosmos and The Starlight Orchestra visited the U.S. in September 1997. They played in at CMJ's MusicFest in New York, Lounge Ax in Chicago, First Avenue in Minneapolis and Spaceland in Los Angeles. Not only that, but Doktor Kosmos visited some record stores and performed for whoever would listen.

US debut by Komeda's touring keyboardist. Dadaesque in a Beefheart-goes-Swenglish sort of way. Ponderously silly and extremely catchy. SkĀl!
